Mission Statement:
To promote women’s philanthropy, to build our endowment, and to serve as a catalyst for positive social change for women and girls in our community.
The Women’s Fund is a component fund of The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, an independent 501C3 organization serving the Greater Birmingham area in central Alabama. Our goal is to raise money to grow our endowment for the future while funding programs that help disadvantaged women and girls today. We know that domestic violence and crushing poverty disproportionately affect women and girls. Therefore, we strengthen our community by investing in the future of this population.
*Alabama ranks 2nd in the nation for the widest earnings gap between women and men.
We invest in financial literacy programs for women and girls.
*Alabama ranks 12th in the nation for intimate partner homicides.
We invest in systemic changes that reduce domestic violence.
*Alabama ranks 3rd in the nation in the number of elderly living in poverty.
We fund programs that ensure safe, reliable services for that growing population.
We honor and celebrate the “power of the purse” and vigorously promote women’s philanthropy. Through our efforts we envision a community in which women and girls live with the dignity, skills, and the financial education to be strong, independent, and contributive members of our community. We fund systemic change because we know that the quality of life for women correlates directly to the quality of life for children, the elderly, the family, and the community at large.
